Works train set up
The NEOCAT group, which consists of COLAS RAIL and TSO Caténaires, entrusted us to set up a works train to prepare for the old catenary poles to be replaced by new generation poles that would be bolted to the existing foundation slabs. Our historical relations since Novium was founded, together with our corporate culture and the flexibility that allows us to table innovative solutions, led to a contract to design and manufacture, obtain approval for, and support the supply of the “Civil Engineering” train. The group issued a functional request that included ambitious performance targets. Hands-on cooperation by all the members of the project saw the development of a new, high-performance work method.
The challenge was to be able to work every day to prepare a series of OHL foundations ready for the future catenary pole replacement by the group’s high output plant system for catenary installation. We developed a flexible solution based on excavation machinery that we fitted out with specially made tools (boring equipment, ballast vacuum extraction system, etc). These machines can be moved in complete safety on a wagon set that has been specially adapted using a guide system patented by Novium. This train operates like an industrial production line. For safety and comfort, the operators work from the track side, with all the vehicles radio-controlled. The initial projects quickly proved that we had made the right choices and applied the correct solutions to deliver efficient, high-performance results.
